Portland Forest School kids learn tracking with our Head of School, Ian.
Hello PFS Families!
This past week marked, Monday, October 14, as Indigenous Peoples Day in Oregon, a day set aside to recognize the Native American communities who have lived on and stewarded this land since time immemorial. Our Upper Grades are currently engaging with contemporary Indigenous movements as part of research and writing projects, drawing An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States and schoolwide planning to include the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde's K-8 Tribal History Curriculum.
Last Week’s Overnightter: 5th-8th graders at Camp Trackers
Our fall overnighter saw the Upper Grades (5th through 8th grade students) travel to a forest location near the Bull Run Watershed.
Our students honed fire making skills, navigational skills by learning map and compass orienteering, finding new secret spots in the old growth grove, and working their Bird Language skills.
The culmination of the evening was a night hike, more stories, and smores!
Thanks again for all of your trust and support in choosing us as your child’s educational home. We, as a staff, are truly honored to have this opportunity!!!!
